Fate Stories
A downloadable game
- Plain text description -
THE GAME
Fate Stories is a simple, light, and story-focused TTRPG you can use to tell any type of story you want!
- A group of heroes, protecting their city from nefarious supervillains.
- Vampire bikers, ruthlessly expanding their feeding grounds.
- College students, stumbling through life, romance, and academia.
All with one game system — learn it once, play forever!
THE RULES
This is a Powered by FATE game. Some of the basics are the same, though they've been streamlined:
- ROLL: You roll 4 Fate Dice (funky ones that look a bit odd).
- SUM: You sum the results, add up relevant Aspects (relevant features of your character & the story) and get a final number.
- VS: You compare your final result against the number declared by your GM ahead of time to find out what happens. Easy!
THE STORY
In Fate Stories, the fiction truly matters! Here are some of the ways the game puts collaborative story-telling first:
- You can't begin playing until you've decided on the broad strokes of your story – your general Premise, source of Conflict, your characters' collective Goal, and a recent Story Development are all necessary before you begin playing. Each player gets to decide at least 1 of these (or other Campaign Aspects), which are written on everyone's Character Sheets.
- Your character can create Scenario Aspects, affecting the current scene – or you can spend Fate Points to create something that your character couldn't.
- The character you make must have a Dynamic, a Character Aspect that outlines their relation/relationship/connection to another person, organisatoin, or location in the game.
- Whehter it is a Campaign/Scenario Aspect, or your Dynamic, these affect your Dice Roll! Add/subtract 1 depending on their impact.
THE CHARACTER
Character creation is fast, simple, and meaningful.
Quickly create unique characters that match your vision by writing into free-form fields.
Create interesting Aspects and once-in-a-lifetime Stunts to show off what your character is truly capable of!

Hi, I love your take on the Fate system! I've always found a bit difficult to grasp that, even if an Aspect would give you an advantage in a situation, if you didn't have any Fate Points then it was irrelevant for your roll. Giving them a +1 with no cost seems like an elegant solution for this. I'll probably take that rule to any Fate games I GM.
The Character Sheet has the "Now" fate points with a 3 there, I'm guessing that should be blank? Also, I think it would be easier for us to just have the character sheet directly as a PDF, instead of a zip file.
Congrats on a game well done, it's concise, easy to follow and has a great presentation all along 👍🏻
Thank you very, very much for the kind words! I'm happy you found Fate Stories to be to your liking – if you're keen for more, drop me a follow! I'm planning on at least 2 games based on Fate Stories (called Fate Stories Experiences) which will be similarly concise, but focus both mechanically and thematically on the premise of the game!
The "Now" field is correct - as you start the game with 3 Fate Points, your starting sheet should have 3 in Start and 3 in Now.
You can grab the character sheet as a PDF only in the "Download Demo" section on Itch! Hope this helps!
Thanks again!
Yes, but then when I spend a point I still have a big printed 3 on that field. It should be blank so I can write whatever points I have left, right?
Ah, I see! Yeah, I'd recommend erasing the digital guides/numbers from the fields before printing and then pencilling the numbers in, so you can adjust your points as needed!
This is an excellent, concise and Aspect-focused implementation of Fate. I've always been a fan of aspects and I'm glad to see a version of the game that really puts their importance front and center.
I will probably be using this the next time I bring Fate to the table.
Thank you for the kind words! :)
Hello Writey, how are you?
Wow, the free copies ran out really quickly. I would really like to purchase a free copy of your game, as I like FATE too much and it seems to me at a glance that you propose several optimized solutions and this catches my attention. thank you for your attention.
Hi Romani8! I've added 2 more Community Copies to the reward pool! :)
Let me know what you think of the game once you've got a chance to play it
Wow, I wasn't fast enough. I ended up not getting a copy. I will wait for the next opportunity.
Just added one for you now! ;)
but can I access this copy somewhere specific here on Itch.io, or is it open in the copy for the community? If so, I lost again.
More copies have been added!
